Erbil, Iraqi Kurdistan – One of the senior figures of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) asked the two main parties in Iraqi Kurdistan (KDP and PUK) to allow the PKK to fight alongside the Peshmerga forces against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Kerkuk and Shengal, north of Iraq.
Murad Qereylan, a leading member of the PKK, said: “ISIL control on Mosul created a new situation in the Middle East political map. Recent developments in the Middle East will lead to radical changes in the region”.
In his interview with Furat News Agency, Qereylan said: “Despite the Turkish Government’s denial of supporting ISIL group, there is certain information of the opposite. Moreover, Turkey knew of ISIL’s attack against Mosul beforehand.”
“ISIL’s attack on Mosul was preplanned and Iraq will be divided into three parts; Kurdish, Shiite and Sunni,” he stated. “If the Kurds are united, no power can beat them. Our forces (PKK) are ready to defend Kurds in Kerkuk and Shengal.”
Abd al-Jabar Shahin, prominent Kurdish writer, told ARA News “Qereylan’s statements allegedly reflect his concern of defending Kurdish people and may seem positive to those who do not know the selfish mentality and method of the PKK”.
Shahin accused the PKK of fighting all Kurdish parties all over Iraqi Kurdistan, since its establishment, as “it considers itself the sole representative of the Kurdish people in the four parts of Kurdistan by constituting other formations directly-ruled by PKK”.
“Before offering its services, Qereylan’s party should have agreed on mutual defence of Western Kurdistan (Syria’s Kurdish areas), especially that this Kurdish majority region has faced repressive practices by the PKK ,” Shahin stated to ARA News. “PKK ruined all Kurdish mutual efforts by being the sole peace-war decision-maker with its questionable agenda.”
Shahin continued, “Recent developments in the region may lead to geographical changes. However, I do not think the PKK will have foothold in the new map as they ignored Kurdistan calling for the Democratic Nation and the Free Borderless Identity.”
According to Shahin, Qereylan’s statement shows PKK’s eagerness to find a place within recent changes for their own sake not the sake of the Kurdish people or Kurdistan.
