Deir ez-Zor, Syria – On Sunday evening, clashes renewed between rebels of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) and the pro-Assad military forces in the vicinity of the military airport of Deir ez-Zor, eastern Syria.
Talking to ARA News from the clashes area, civil activist Fayez Abdul Aziz said that the clashes coincided with artillery shelling by the pro-regime military forces on the area of the clashes, which led to the death of one FSA fighter and the injury of 4 others.
Meanwhile, the pro-Assad warplanes targeted the towns of al-Shamitiya and Ayyash in Deir ez-Zor countryside, without recording casualties.
Local sources also reported that clashes took place on Sunday between militants of al-Qaeda splinter group of the Islamic State (previously known as ‘ISIL’) and tribal fighters in al-Masrab village, west of Deir ez-Zor, which led to a mass displacement among civilians who headed towards neighbouring villages escaping violence.
On the other hand, the pro-regime forces targeted the town of Hawayij Diyab with heavy artillery from Brigade 137, while a similar strike hit Sheikh Miskin neighbourhood in Deir ez-Zor city launched from the mountain near the city. No casualties reported.
